In 1999, a group of aspiring jamsters in Athens GA converged to share "one more Saturday night", an evening of live Grateful Dead music with the local townsfolk. With Deadheads still grieving over the loss of Jerry Garcia a mere 4 years earlier, these musicians were united by the conviction that the world needed more live Grateful Dead music.
That fateful evening, dubbed "One More Saturday Night" swiftly transformed into the touring machine known as COSMIC CHARLIE. Now, 20 years and roughly 800 shows later, the convergence has grown stronger than ever.
Cosmic Charlie has toured coast-to-coast, and performed alongside Grateful Dead members & Dead-related musical family. From Veneta to Virginia Beach, Louisville to Little Rock, Missoula to Myrtle Beach... Cosmic Charlie has gained a first hand understanding of the concept of "long strange trip". And our beloved fans have had our backs all the way!
On Sat Aug 24, Cosmic Charlie returns to the stage of the Georgia Theatre in Athens GA - the site of our very first show in the summer of 1999. The band will play acoustic and electric sets.
Come out and join the fun as we celebrate the band's storied history & the beginning of the next 20 years!
